Jeva Anti-Acne Face Serum Review

Hello fellows!

I am Akansha and today I am presenting another actually honest review on Jeva's Anti-Acne Face Serum with Purifying Spot Corrector + Deep Cleansing. My experience with another Jeva's product which was Vitamin C Serum was really satisfactory and I had initially developed trust towards Jeva. I will provide the link to Jeva's Vitamin C Serum review at the bottom of this post. So, I thought of giving a try to another Jeva's product. I used this serum for a month and I must say, it was a MAJOR disappointment for me. Sensitive skin people, stay away from this serum. This serum did nothing for my skin except irritating it and giving me red marks on my face. I did not like it and I am not going to recommend it. Let's get started with the product details.
Jeva's Anti Acne Face Serum

PRODUCT PACKAGING:
I bought the serum from Nykaa. The MRP on the box is 550 INR but I got it at a discounted price of 385 INR (All Hail Nykaa!). The packaging is typical Jeva style with a black box and shiny letters. The box contains the serum bottle and a dropper. The dropper can be used as a lid for the bottle, another typical Jeva thing (it's very convenient). The bottle has 15 ml of serum in it. I didn't use it for long as it did not suit my skin. However, if it does suit your skin, the bottle will last for 2 months easily. And again, the silicone lid of the bottle, it troubled me the same as it did with Vitamin C Serum. That little thing is actually tough to remove. Be careful with removing it, or you might spill the serum. The overall packaging of the product is acceptable. No bad words for it.

INGREDIENTS:
"Glycolic, Lactic, Salicylic, Tea Tree, Glycerin, Aloevera Extract, Dm water, Green Tea."
Glycolic acid and lactic acid are AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) while salicylic acid is BHA (beta-hydroxy acids). The use of acids on the skin might scare you but some of these acids are very good for the skin. However, you have to be very careful with following an acid-based skincare routine because the overuse of such products will do more harm than good. One should always apply sunscreen after use of such acids because they tend to make the skin sensitive.

1. Glycolic acid is very effective in removing the outermost layer of dead skin cells and helps in treating scars and skin discolouration.

2. Lactic acid helps to keep the skin moisturized and stimulates collagen renewal. It softens out the face.

3. Salicylic acid works best with blackheads and whiteheads. It dissolves the type of skin debris that clogs pores and causes acne.

4. Tea tree oil helps in treating spots, pimples, blemishes, infections, etc. This oil has microbial and antiseptic properties.

5. Glycerin makes the skin soft and supple and improves the texture of the skin. It helps to heal dry skin.

6. Aloevera extract has anti-bacterial properties and anti-oxidants which helps in treating burns, acne and dry skin.

7. Dm water is demineralized water that has been purified and most of its minerals and salts have been removed. It supplements hydration in the skin.

8. Green tea extract helps in diminishing the signs of aging, repairs damage, fights bacteria, soothes redness and swelling, etc.

There is also a warning on the box which goes like this - "Natural products can be allergic to some people. Patch test recommended. Discontinue if irritation occurs. Avoid contact with eyes."

This serum contains all-natural ingredients, which is a plus point. However, the ingredients can be allergic to sensitive skin people, like me, which is given in the warning. So, a patch test is a must before using this serum, especially if you have sensitive skin. Do not use the serum if it cause any redness or inflammation on the skin. It will do more harm if you continue using it that way. Do not apply this serum on the under-eye area and over the eyelid.

HOW TO USE:
"Apply a drop on each fingertip of one hand. Touch fingertips of both hands together. Massage serum over face starting at the center, moving outward."

I have a better way of using this serum which I have developed myself over time. First, cleanse your face and neck with your favourite cleanser or face wash and pat it dry with a clean towel. Don't rub the towel on the face - please don't!

Second, use a toner to tighten the pores of your face. Let the toner do its work for 1-2 minutes.

Now, take the serum bottle and shake it slightly. The serum has a very watery consistency. It is almost transparent and has a slight tinge of white in it. The smell of the serum is like a medicine. I absolutely hate the smell. However, the smell goes away after some time of applying the serum. Fill the dropper with the serum and gently drop 1-2 drops on the face. I say, don't put drops all over your face. Go section-wise because the serum is very runny. What I do is:

1. Put 3 tiny drops of serum on the forehead and then massage it lightly.
2. Then put 2 drops on one cheek followed by a light massage. Repeat the same with the other cheek.
3. Put 1 drop on the chin and massage it lightly.
4. Put 2 drops on the neck and massage.

Also make sure that the tip of the dropper does not touch your face because then it may pick up bacteria from your face and when you put the dropper back into the bottle, it may contaminate the whole serum. Massage with very light hands and don't rub your face or neck. Let the serum get absorbed fully and then only proceed to the next step. The next step could be another serum or a moisturizer or facial oil. That is up to your choice.

PRODUCT CLAIMS:
"Jeva anti acne skin serum that rejuvenates your skin, helps to lighten dark circles and improves your complexion. Removes excess oil from the skin. Renewing skin cells and invigorating the skin, gives you a younger, fresher and more radiant skin. It effectively concentrates for acne, pimples and oily skin. This hydrating skin serum minimizes the pores, clears the skin and enhances radiance of the skin. It reduces sebum secretion and the anti inflammatory properties reduce acne. Further it also inhibits melanin formation, removes under eye darkness, dark spots and enhances glow."

HA HA HA, all of these claims are a joke to me. This serum was very near to ruin my skin totally. If I hadn't stopped using it in time, who knows what I would have made of myself.
REALITY:
I cannot stress enough on the fact that I hate this serum. I don't know what went wrong. All the ingredients are good, natural and for all skin types, yet it did not suit my skin. I guess sensitive skin is very hard to take care of. Anyway, this serum did nothing like rejuvenating my skin or doing anything with the acne or spots. I could not even use it for more than a week. I suffered from skin irritation and redness due to it. Forget about melanin control or oil secretion control or any other type of control. It only harmed my skin and caused more acne. This serum is alright for moisturizing but it tends to get very oily. Overall, it is a NO-NO product from my side.

PROS:
1. Paraben-free
2. Hassle-free usage
3. Affordable
4. Cruelty-free
5. 100% vegan
6. Made in India

CONS:
1. Does absolutely nothing as it claims
2. Not for sensitive skin
3. Bad smell
4. Might cause itching on the face
5. Tends to get sticky (not very convenient for oily skin)
